President's Message for October 28, 2014
How time flies! This is the last President's Message of my four-year term! It has been a joy and a privilege to serve the SAH, and I want to thank each one of you for your support. You have helped me make the transition from nervous rookie at the podium to truly enjoying my leadership role.
For those of you who don't yet know, I will be retiring at the end of April 2015 and will move to Oregon soon after, which is the reason for my withdrawal from the Board of Directors. I will continue to attend our meetings until I move and will remain an SAH member in the future. I hope to coordinate my visits to San Francisco so that I can attend SAH meetings whenever possible.
Our Stellar Speaker in October; Our December Holiday Meeting
We witnessed history when Nick Veronico was our featured speaker for the first time ever at the October 4 meeting! Thanks to Nick for his fascinating presentation on "Hidden Warbirds" in follow-up to his two recent books.
On December 6, our holiday meeting will feature John Geoghegan's presentation on Operation Storm: Japan's Top Secret Submarines and Its Plan to Change the Course of World War II. Best selling author Clive Cussler said this about Operation Storm: "A great historical read, scrupulously researched and brilliantly written. Geoghegan has produced a marvelous insight into the men on both sides who fought a brutal underwater war beneath the waters of the Pacific in WWII."
A big thank you to our members who contributed food and money to the annual Canned Food Drive. Once again, the SAH was able to make a substantial donation to the Second Harvest Food Bank with more than 250 pounds of canned goods plus a number of checks paid directly to the food bank.
Continuing in the spirit of giving, we have another chance to make a difference for those in need by participating in the Toys for Teens Drive at our December 6 meeting. If you are able, please bring an unwrapped toy for a teenage girl or boy so that these kids can have a special Christmas along with the younger ones. Thanks to all for your generosity!
See you at our December 6th meeting!
