Presidents Message for March, 2010 This is my first note to everyone since the board of directors meeting in January. In December 2009 the new slate of directors was elected. Returning to the board for 2010 is Roger Cain, Gela DePutter, Alice Hendricks, Norm Jukes, Dan Morgan, Rick Turner, and this author. New members joining are Rick Pisio and Paul Schwafel. At that time, the board elected myself as the president, Roger Cain as vice president, Alice Hendricks as secretary, and Dan Morgan as treasurer. Let me take this opportunity to thank our returning board members for their service, and welcome Rick P. and Paul to the board. Rick P. has taken over editorship of Touch & Go. Thanks also to our committee heads: Bruce Bengston (Elections), Andy Melomet (video), Lee Scales (Donations/Prizes), Bill Stubkjaer (Trivia). Many great opportunities await us, and 2010 will be a great year. This board works well together as we all share the society's vision and everyone works to meet the same goals. One of our biggest goals is sustainment of the organization. The SAH has done well in the past and is doing fine for 2010. However, we need to grow our membership in order to insure our long-term viability. You can help by introducing a friend to the SAH, and keep in mind that SAH membership makes a great gift. As we move into 2010, we're changing the meetings to an MC format. This gives each of the board members the opportunity to run a meeting, and enables us to cross-train on the various duties and responsibilities of each board position. Alice Hendricks and Gela DePutter have each had a turn, and have done very well. Thank you both. In addition, we're working on a couple of tours for 2010, and we'll have more details as we get closer. Housekeeping Membership dues are due in January. If you have a red bar on your newsletter mailing label, please send your $25 check for 2010 to the society's post office box. As a quick review, our society documents can be found on our website: www.sfahistory.org/ Here you'll find our bylaws, policies and procedures, and other important information. As a review, you must have a reservation to attend a meeting. If you miss the lunch reservation deadline, please call the society at 650/631-4207 to see if we can accommodate you. Note that we charge $50 if you show up to a luncheon without a reservation. This has been our policy since February 2007, and we are enforcing it. Why you ask? This causes problems for the restaurant/hotel, and recently required a number of our volunteers to give up their seats or meal choices to accommodate unannounced guests. This is not fair to those who work so hard for the society. All we're asking is for you to be considerate of others.Thank you for a great 2009, and I can't wait to share 2010's events with you as well. - Nick Veronico
