   President's Message for July/August 2019

With summer now well underway, the Society for Aviation is pleased to present another exciting, expanded edition of our Touch & Go newsletter. As always, many thanks go to all contributing members for sharing their interesting stories and photographs, with special thanks to our Newsletter Editor Betty Veronico for her gallant efforts of putting it all together.

May was a busy month for the SAH. Two events that were long in the planning stages finally came to fruition during the second and third weeks of the month. First up was the annual presentation of our society's Col. Ben Donahue Memorial Scholarship at Marin's Air Force Junior ROTC Awards Night Ceremony, and second, the fascinating tour of U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Sacramento. Hats off to SAH Tour Coordinator Dave Osgood for his tireless efforts and meticulous attention to the many details involved with the organization of this tour. Both events are summarized in the following pages of this newsletter.

As we pause for summer break, we recall our first three general meetings of 2019 held in February, April, and June featuring guest speakers Dave Trojan, Ted Edwards and Mark Cotta Vaz, respectively. We appreciate and thank each of them for sharing with our members and guests their extensive research findings contained in their educational presentations. Kudos to SAH Program Director Nick Veronico for his unwavering commitment to scheduling our guest speakers.

Two upcoming Northern California aviation event reminders: The Legends of Flight Collection and the Nut Tree Airport in Vacaville hosts their Pancake Breakfast and Aircraft Display Day on the fourth Saturday of every month - May to September. Per their Facebook page, the three remaining 2019 dates are July 27, Aug. 24, and Sept. 28. This is an enjoyable venue for socializing and seeing a wide variety of vintage and modern aircraft on the ramp and in the air. All proceeds help support the museum.

In the North Bay Area, the 2019 Wings Over Wine Country Air Show presented by the Pacific Coast Air Museum is scheduled for Sept. 28 - 29 at the Charles M. Schultz - Sonoma County Airport in Santa Rosa.

In closing, on behalf of the SAH Board of Directors, I bid all of you an enjoyable and safe summer season, and we look forward to seeing you at our next meeting in October.
