President's Message for March/April. 2017
Our first meeting of 2017 is detailed on page 4 of this issue. As a member of the Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA) team, I can't tell you how proud I was to see Manny Antimisiaris representing the observatory and the space agency so well! Thanks to Manny and his wife Christel for making the journey from their home in Southern California to share the details of his fascinating aviation career.
If you missed the January meeting, a DVD will be available shortly. Other meeting DVDs are also available for loan or purchase. Visit our DVD page to see what's available: www.sfahistory.org/speakers.htm
On the horizon is our annual 48-page Summer Edition, now in its 10 year. What makes the summer edition so interesting is the variety of input from our members. That said, we need a lot of copy to fill 48 pages. Museum visits, interesting aircraft at airports, photo essays, and feature stories - we're interested in them all. Please send your photos as attachments, not embedded in the body of the email, and your text and captions in a separate Word document. For more information, view our Article and Photo Submission Guidelines on the web at: www.sfahistory.org/guidelines.htm
The April meeting will feature Robert A. Rowe discussing his experiences as a member of the Red Bull-Stratos freefall parachute jump. On Oct. 14, 2012, Felix Baumgartner jumped from nearly 128,000 feet, and Rowe was on the team to ensure his safety. Bring your questions, your curiosity, and a friend to our meeting in Redwood City. See you there.
