27th Annual Clear Lake Seaplane Splash-In
Held during the weekend of Sept. 22-24, 2006, a nice variety of different types of aircraft arrived at Lakeport for the annual Splash-In. Strong winds gusting up to 40 mph greeted the dozen or so aircraft that arrived on Friday, along with continued strong winds during Saturday morning, when the rest of the arrivals came in. The strong winds more than likely kept some aircraft away, but those that did arrive enjoyed a fun weekend with their friends, and by Saturday afternoon, the wind died off allowing for most of the aircraft to get up in the air. As in the past, the Skylark Shores Resort was the staging area for all of the activities, and the Natural High School playing field was used for parking out of the water, with the addition of a new Marston mat ramp. New event organizers Chuck Kimes and Ray Wolfe kept things running smoothly, assisted by ramp boss James Hubbard. Unlike past years, volunteer Kellseyville BSA Sea Bees from Sea Scout Ship Konocti Phoenix assisted with aircraft parking and wing walking. Food and drinks were available at both locations, with seminars held in the school buildings. Below is a sampling of some of the aircraft that were in attendance. Next years event is scheduled for Sept. 21-23, 2007, mark your calendars now.
